ICL Performance Products Selects Logistics Management Solutions
Press Release - 3/18/2009
ST. LOUIS, MO – Logistics Management Solutions (LMS), a non-asset-based third party logistics provider, has been selected to help ICL Performance Products streamline its bidding process and reduce its carrier rates by employing LMS’ online, reverse-auction bidding software and contract management services. St. Louis-based ICL Performance Products is engaged in the development, manufacture and marketing of fertilizers, industrial products, metallurgy, and performance products.
ICL will tap LMS’ bidding technology, TOTALBid, and expertise to secure competitive contracts with ocean carriers. Previously, ICL employed this technology to manage the bidding processes for its intermodal and truckload freight operations.
“TOTALBid simplifies the bidding process and enabled us to exceed our cost saving goals,” said Karen Schuyler, director of global logistics for ICL. “The reverse-auction format encourages fair and competitive bidding among carriers. LMS supports the entire process to ensure we secure exceptional rates with qualified carriers that are equipped to meet our safety and service requirements.”
TOTALBid’s reverse-auction methodology assigns grades (A, B, C, D or F) to carriers throughout the bidding process. Grades are based on how well carriers perform against a shipper’s rate benchmarks and service requirements. Providers can modify their offers until the bid closes. The system is designed to help shippers receive the most competitive rates the market will bear.
The online format enables shippers to solicit and procure numerous bid packages while minimizing administrative time. TOTALBid standardizes and organizes bid data for efficient execution and analysis; it also supports all transportation modes and accommodates multi-mode bid packages. Once carrier contracts are signed, shippers can transfer TOTALBid rate data directly to their transportation management systems (TMS).
